Overview

Florida International University is a public research university having its main campus in Miami-Dade County. It was founded in 1965, and today the university has grown to become the third-largest university in Florida. FIU offers more than 190 programs of study that include 60 baccalaureates, 81 masters degrees, 3 specialist programs, 4 doctoral degrees, and 4 professional programs through its 11 colleges and over 40 centres, labs, facilities and institutes. 

The University is a constituent of the State University System of Florida and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. It is classified among the Carnegie "R1: Doctoral Universities, with very high research activity on campus. The university is well-known for its international focus and offers students the opportunity to study abroad and engage in international research and collaboration.

Services for International Students

There are health centres available on campus that also provide psychological counselling. Campus police ensure the safety of students, and The Disability Resource Center gives all the necessary resources to the students who need them. Through the various clubs and organizations, students can also explore extracurricular and recreational activities during their university life.
