Overview

University of Illinois at Springfield is a public university that is located in Springfield, Illinois. It was established in 1969 as Sangamon State University and became a part of the University of Illinois system in 1995. As the newest member of the University of Illinois system, the university serves over 4,000 students. 

The university offers 56 bachelor's, and 39 minors, along with 44 master's degrees and one doctorate degree. Additionally, the university also offers 37 graduate certificates and other coursework leading to six ISBE endorsements. The university is a part of the American Council in Education and the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.

Services for International Students

The university provides many resources and services to ensure that all students get the best education and are able to enjoy their university life. These include the Women's Center, Diversity Center, and Student Leadership Center, among others. There are health and wellness services also available through which the students can take up recreational activities and also go for counselling sessions in case they need those to take care of their mental health.

Accommodation

UIS offers on-campus accommodation for more than 1,100 students. They live in the residence halls, which are mostly reserved for first and second-year students. The senior year students get the option to live in either the townhouses or the apartments, four of which are situated on the East campus of the university.

Springfield is the capital of Illinois and has several governmental agencies, law firms, and organizations that enable students to look for internships and job opportunities. There are various cultural and recreational activities that students can engage in while pursuing their higher education. They can explore the nature preserves and parks of the region apart from visiting the Illinois State Museum and also The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum to witness the historical legacy of the city.
