Overview

The University of Utah is a top-ranking public research university that is located in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was established in 1850 and is the flagship institution in the Utah System of Higher Education. It is Utah's oldest higher education institution and the second-largest public university in the state. 

The university organizes its 150 academic departments and programs into 17 schools and colleges that include the College Of Humanities, College of Education, School of Dentistry, College of Nursing, College of Social Work, and College of Mines and Earth Sciences, among others. The four-year research university is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.

Student Affairs at the university comprises more than 20 departments that make students feel welcomed and fully incorporated into university life. These departments include the Center for Disability and Access, the University Counseling Center, the Student Health Center, the Financial Wellness Center, the Career & Professional Development Center, and many others that take care of the various personal and professional needs of the students.

The University has arrangements for on-campus housing for its undergraduate and graduate students in different residence halls and areas with specific facilities. The undergraduate students have the added benefit of being a part of a specific housing program that matches their interests in areas such as entrepreneurship, social justice, community service and many more. There are special housing options also, including Living Learning Communities and Themed Communities. 

About Location

Salt Lake City is the capital city and also the largest in the state of Utah, which is often shortened to Salt Lake. It is home to numerous museums, theatres and other cultural venues that provide various opportunities for students to engage with the arts and humanities. Additionally, the city is located near several outdoor recreation areas, such as the Great Salt Lake and Wasatch Mountains, that offer options for hiking, skiing, camping, snowboarding and other outdoor activities.
