Overview

The University of Utah is a top-ranking public research university that is located in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was established in 1850 and is the flagship institution in the Utah System of Higher Education. It is Utah's oldest higher education institution and the second-largest public university in the state. 

The university organizes its 150 academic departments and programs into 17 schools and colleges that include the College Of Humanities, College of Education, School of Dentistry, College of Nursing, College of Social Work, and College of Mines and Earth Sciences, among others. The four-year research university is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.

Salt Lake City is the capital city and also the largest in the state of Utah, which is often shortened to Salt Lake.
