Overview

The University of South Carolina is a renowned public research university located in Columbia, South Carolina. USC is the largest university in the state by enrollment and is the flagship of the University of South Carolina System. The university was founded in 1801 as South Carolina College, and its main campus is spread over 359 acres of land situated in downtown Columbia. Interestingly, the university houses the largest collection of Robert Burns and various Scottish literature outside of Scotland and also has the world's largest Ernest Hemingway collection. 

The university offers more than 350 programs leading to bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees through its 14 colleges and schools. The disciplines taught at the university include business, law, pharmacy, medicine, social work, engineering, computing, hospitality, retail and sport management, and music, among others.
